Yep, that’s about right

I knew they were bad, but THAT bad?

I had no idea the Lions were on that bad of a streak.

Today’s win broke a record-tying loss streak (19 games), their first win since–hold onto your hat–Dec. 23, 2007.

Just… wow. I think it might be time for the Ford family to sell.

Oh well, some good news considering U of M won. Yeah, I work there, what’s it to yah?

Jeff Daniels Profiled in Playbill.com

You had to read that title twice, didn’t you? Anyway, Mr. Daniels is the hometown boy who made it big and, by all accounts, is a pretty nice guy, too. I always find it interesting to read about him, mostly because of the “yeah, he’s from my town” factor I think, but also because I enjoy his work (and he’s from my town). Check out the profile on Playbill. Oh, and Jeff, if you ever want to play euchre, him me up; we’ll head down to Sietz’s and scare up a game.

Diether Haenicke, former WMU president, dies at 73

A great President and someone who actually mattered to many students at Western in a very personal way.

I was never fortunate to meet him personally, but he authorized a grant for me to attend a writing conference (after being shot down hard by the Dean).

He was intensely dedicated to the University and it and the city were better for it. The entire system–and Kalamazoo in general–has lost one of it’s great advocates.

Em, come back

Guy Adams from The Independent tracks down Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers). A classic rise and fall story, but one that needs one more chapter. Come back, Slim, if not for yourself, then for Detroit. Lord knows that city needs a voice again.

And Get Off My Lawn!

I’ll let this one introduce itself.

The Brighton City Council on Thursday approved an ordinance allowing police in the Livingston County community to ticket and fine anyone who is annoying in public “by word of mouth, sign or motions.”

Welcome to West Michigan-style legislation. As J– called it, this is a bunch of fuddy-duddies grumping over “those damned kids”, but moving their crotchetiness into civics.

A city attorney says there could be situations where the measure would violate freedom of speech…

Yah think? I can’t wait for some well-funded smart-ass to walk around Brighton screaming Blessings From God at passerbys, just to get cited, and then sue the friggen pants off the city. What a bunch of dumb-ass, over-bearing, holier-than-thou bull this is.

Feels just like my hometown.

GM CEO Drives a Chevy Volt to Washington…Sort Of

*Facepalm* Apparently, they didn’t learn nearly as much as they could have last time.

The fact that Wagoner didn’t drive one from Detroit, but apparently had it shipped to Washington in order to drive the last few miles, may be an indication that the Volt program has a long was to go to keep its promises. [emphasis mine]

I understand it can’t make the trip, but isn’t that sort of the point as to why the US auto makers can’t compete? Seriously, GM (and Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler), how many times can you miss the point?

Judge rules against Michigan over wine shipments

The state prohibits out-of-state retailers from shipping wine straight to Michigan consumers _ unless the retailers have a location in Michigan and are a part of a three-tier regulatory system.

A federal judge in Detroit earlier this week declared Michigan’s law unconstitutional for discriminating against out-of-state retailers.

Woo hoo! Wonder if they’ll appeal.

For the sake of the state, Governor, remove Kilpatrick now

This farce has gone on long enough. The damage this mayor is doing goes beyond Detroit, affecting the reputation and stature of the entire state. Governor Granholm, remove the mayor now.

Mr. White, testified that he suffered a fractured hip after being shoved into his partner by Mr. Kilpatrick, who played football in college. Mr. White also said that Mr. Kilpatrick, who is black, had criticized his partner for working on the case and told her that as a black woman, “You shouldn’t even be riding in a car with a guy named White.”

Notice that this is in the New York Times. We’re a laughing stock. The time has come to end this parade of arrogance.
