New music!

  • Very much digging the new album from House of Protection, Outrun You All (Apple, Youtube).
  • Mogwai also kicked out a new album, a soundtrack to The Bombing of Pan Am 103 miniseries (Apple, Bandcamp). Solid Mogwai outing
  • I stumbled on this blog post talking about late-90s, early-2000s band Radford and fell down the hole of finding their music (spoiler: hard to come by. Youtube seems to be the only place to listen to everything). I don’t know if they’re the best, overlooked, band but a really good end-of-alternative era rock.
  • BABYMETAL & Electric Callboy – RATATATA (Apple, YouTube). Good stuff. BABYMETAL is worth a YouTube night; J-pop vocals and choreography over decent metal tracks. (BABYMETAL | Electric Callboy)

Digging around in my basement (neighborhood garage sale is coming), I stumbled onto a set of prints I’d purchased for my partner in 2016 (photos below). I could not for the life of me remember when and from where I’d bought them. I put out a call on Mastodon and within minutes got a response. They were created by Nooligan, someone I remember following on Twitter at the time. He’s still active and making nice stuff.

Last weekend we went to Frankenmuth, MI for a quick weekend away. I think we found the inspiration for The Good Place. Fun fact, Frankenmuth has the largest, officially-sanctioned Oktoberfest outside of Germany.

Photo of a winding street, looking uphill. There's water fountain in the foreground at the left part of the photo. There are three people in the far distance. The scene is sunny, nearly mid-day. On each side are three-story buildings meant to look like German houses, each with a sign for the store within hanging just above the first story line. Everything in Frankenmuth is built for tourism and isn't genuine, so everything has a slightly off feeling. It looks a lot like the fake heaven created in the TV show "The Good Place"
